If you have an excessive blushing problem, then this article will help you out. I have outlined 10 different treatments for blushing which will enable you to better handle or completely eliminate blushing . But first lets discus a little bit on what this condition really is;
What is blushing?
Blushing is a natural physical response characterized by a sudden reddening of the face that occurs spontaneously. It is normally triggered by a social phobia such as shyness or embarrassment. However, there are some people who blush uncontrollably and yet they don’t suffer from any kind of social anxiety.
Before you admit that you have a blushing problem you should know that it is completely natural and human to blush at certain social instances especially when you find yourself in an embarrassing situation. In fact blushing really does help to relieve tension and provide an outlet for you to express yourself in such awkward situations. However, there are still a good number of people who can’t help but blush whenever someone looks at them (even if they are acquainted).
If you think you have a blushing problem you can follow these 10 useful treatment for blushing; – “stop blushing tips” to help you;
1- Relax your muscles and smile
When you blush, you can quickly fade it out by relaxing your muscles (particularly in your shoulders and neck) and thinking of something else. A smile is also a great way to fade a blush, and it will look more natural; as our cheeks naturally redden when we smile. Blink a lot, and take deep breaths. It usually helps the redness and calms you down. Just keep remembering in your mind, be chill!
2- Make sure you avoid wearing clothes that make you feel uncomfortable
Do not put on cloths that can make you feel uncomfortable. For example; clothes that make you sweat easily or are too tight. Ensure you wear clothes that fit you perfectly. Okay you don’t need to always wear loose clothes that will put you out of style but at least wear clothes that let you breathe with ease.
3- Try to be more expressive with words than with expressions
In fact we normally blush at and about everything that we may or may not be embarrassed about simply because we have nothing to say. It is impossible to blush and talk at the same time. So if you do find yourself in a situation that makes you blush try to talk (preferably about something that does not concern your current situation) and not to stand or sit there like a zombie. Talking is guaranteed to keep you from blushing but this technique might fail if you start muttering or talking about something which makes no sense whatsoever. In that case you would only have helped to make your situation worse.
4- Sometimes blushing can be caused by an underlying skin condition
Some underlying skin conditions such as rosacea can cause blushing. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes facial blushing. In that case you will need to:
- Avoid being in situations that make you feel stressed. And if you are forced to be in stressful situation try to relieve your stress by trying to think about something else.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Try to eat foods which are not too spicy and by that I mean avoid eating too much Indian food.
- You can use camouflaged make-up (for women) or laser treatment to shrink visible blood vessels.
5-Keep your body hydrated
Another simple but effective treatment for blushing is to keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You can use creams with natural ingredients to keep your skin cool and hydrated.
6- Try to build your self esteem
Research has proved that people who are shy tend to blush more often than those who are outgoing. This point is therefore a reminder on what I had stated earlier (talking). Shy people tend to let their facial expressions do all the “talking” than their mouths which is why shy people will find it almost impossible to stop blushing when someone looks at them. If you cannot help being shy, you can opt for my second best alternative which is to avoid direct eye contact. And if it does occur, make sure it is only for a short time and not prolonged. This might help you sometimes but you still have to say something.
You blush because of a feeling of embarrassment. Try to figure out why you are feeling embarrassed. Until you can stop feeling like everyone is judging you and thinking bad things about you, you will not be able to stop blushing. People who blush usually care too much about the opinions of others, and this is a mistake. Why should you care so much about what everyone thinks? Are they paying your bills?
7- You can try to control your breathing when in an embarrassing situation
Trying to control your breathing will help to keep your body cool and reduce the likelihood of blushing. You can begin by taking deep breaths (not loud breaths) whenever you feel embarrassment coming over you. Concentrating on your breathing will also help keep your mind off the embarrassing situation.
8- Another treatment you can use to control blushing is Hypnotherapy
This involves hypnotizing the mind to have more control over the body’s responses. Hence, you will only blush when you are in the right environment for it. However, this form of treatment for blushing is at the very extreme and you should only try it when all other paths have failed. Extensive consultation with a psychiatrist is also highly recommended before taking this form of treatment.
9- Surgical procedures to reduce excessive blushing
There are several surgical procedures which you can undergo to reduce or treat excessive blushing e.g. endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) – involves cutting the nerves that cause facial blood vessels to dilate. But the dangers of using surgery as a blushing remedy are simply unnecessary! This type of treatment will leave you suffering for a long time. Sometimes the type of food you eat (note spicy foods apply only if you suffer from rosacea) can cause you to blush more often. Although there is not enough scientific evidence to support this claim I would advise you to follow a balanced diet.
Many people interpret blushing uncontrollably as a form of emotional weakness which can cause you to lose your respect or be denied the chance to assume a leadership position. Therefore, if you do have a blushing problem you should first diagnose it to find the cause then select the most appropriate action to take.
